A Little About Ms. Vines

My name is Janet Vines, I have 2 daughters, who are married and each have a daughter. Both have graduated from college, and both will be working in education. They are married to wonderful men, and I am very glad they are my son in laws.
I have a BS from Alabama A&M, but I also attended the University of Montevallo for 3 years, I transferred to A&M when I got married. I taught part of a year at Central, here in Madison County, and taught part of a year in Huntsville City. I stayed home with my children until I needed to come back to teaching (that divorce thing). But, during the time I was home with my children I taught classes in Adult Education. I taught in Montgomery County at Peterson Elementary and during that time I attended Troy State in Montgomery, Auburn University Montgomery, and Alabama State and earned a Masters in Elementary Education. During my stay in Montgomery I also attended the military's school for instructors: Academic Instructor School at Maxwell Air Force Base.
I came back to Huntsville in 1992, where I began at Riverton School, then came to Mt. Carmel when this school opened. I felt like I had come home, both of my parents had taught in Madison County. My dad was superintendent from about 1968 to 1977 or so, and my mom taught at Brownsboro and then Big Cove. Mom and I both taught for Mr. Humphrey, she at Brownsboro and Big Cove, and me at Riverton.
Since coming back to Madison County, I have been trained in Math Their Way, I was on the Building Leadership Team, attended Southern Association of Schools and Colleges training, been a HASP Leader Master Teacher, gone through Alabama Reading Initiative (and ARI Recertification), and worked with Educational Technology. I started Educational Technology by just attending workshops to learn how to use Microsoft, but that hooked me into technology. I have taught several workshops for our yearly Technology Conference, worked on many projects in the Educational Technology office, and taken lots of classes online to integrate technology (including the TDC class) into the elementary curriculum. I have been video taped by ALEX (Alabama Learning Exchange) integrating interactive whiteboards into second grade writing. I have helped the county by writing lesson plans that met the Technology Course of Study, and producing short teaching videos on our JAM page. I have worked on Mt. Carmel's yearbook for about 4 years and this team has evolved from a cut and paste yearbook to a completely digital and built online yearbook.
I love the directions that Madison County has encouraged me to take. Every year I have tried to learn something new to enhance classroom learning. I try to be an active part of Mt. Carmel, because you get out of what you put into. At Mt. Carmel I have taught 2 inclusion classes, been on BBSST for 5 years, been on the Building Leadership Team, and on the Technology Team.
